Good evening! My name is Shelby Nielsen and I'm new to the salt water hobby, and also relatively new to Iowa. Recently, I started a 29 gallon biocube that I got for a fantastic deal. It's set up, replaced the lighting, summer, heater, and a power head. Just waiting some time till I add fish. I definitely need to add more rock, and one of you great enthusiasts will be dropping some off here soon. So far I have 2 blue legged hermit crabs and 2 turbo snails. Definitely getting some algae growth and some diatoms. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome. I also have a Biocube (that I didn't get a deal on). It's been running now about 7 months. Good thing you changed lighting, I need to do this also. The temp is a pain to control. Look into the in tank media basket if you haven't already. I use filter floss from Wal mart, purigen and chemi pur.
You'll find great deals on corals from reefers in the club. If it wasn't for them I'd be up to $3500.00 instead of the $2000.00 I have into it.

Thanks! My wife would kill me if I spent $2000!!! Ha-ha I have liked into the media basket. Right now, I cut a couple pieces of egg crate to fit both parts of the middle section. I'm using pillow stuffing as my mechanical, and I also am using the chemipure and purigen. The picture was taken yesterday.

I started a 29 biocube about two months ago. I haven't changed anything with it yet. Shortly after buying it, I bought a 75 gal saltwater tank. I'm still in the process of setting it up.
Now I have a 18gal for my betta, and a couple other fish.
Was giving a 55 gal not sure what I'm doing with it yet.
I haven't had any problems with the heat. my heater is turned on, but I never see it run. My tank stays a constant temp.
    Enjoy.

Welcome! This is a great community to be a part of. You will literally save hundreds and/or thousands of dollars by getting corals and equipment from fellow members. There's a great wealth of knowledge here :)

update. I bought the Aquaticlife internal mini portein skimmer 115. It's been working great. I would highly recommend it.
down side, it won't fit under the hood, so you'll need to take that off. It was worth it. Taken off the lid I added the AI prime light. Like it so much, I may put two over my 75 gal tank.
