New tv show on Animal Planet "tanked"

First preview of Animal Planet’s Tanked aquarium TV series Posted on July 15th, 2011 by Jake Adams 11 Comments We were very excited to learn that mainstream TV is interested in the aquarium world enough to produce an aquarium reality TV series called Tanked, and the first preview doesn’t disappoint. If you’re a fan of all the building shows on the Discovery, History and TLC channels, the new Tanked series seems to follow a similar serious yet fun direction. The guys from Acrylic Tank Manufacturers (ATM) seem to have great time building some unforgettable aquarium projects and in addition to being entertained, viewers who have never seen the fabrication of large acrylic aquariums will be as eye-opening as it is informative. Animal Planet’s Tanked seems to be equal parts Orange County Choppers, Pawn Stars and maybe a little Mythbusters. We’ll have to see how the six episodes of Tanked play out but you be sure we’ll be watching closely to see how the guys from ATM represent the aquarium scene on national television. The first preview of the Tanked TV show premiers August 19th on Animal Planet.

That article on Reef Builders has a pretty good thread of comments. A lot of people were really blasting the show for portraying the hobby in a negative light.

 

I do think that the people bitching in the Reef Builders thread have a point about the mis treated puffer. But its only a 90 sec clip, so hopefully they don't have any more insedents like that on the show. On the other hand, if there is a show about our hobby on national TV, that will bring alot of exposure for the hobby, which will be good.

To bad there wasn't a way to get them to mention MSCNA 2011 on the show.

Although "Tanked" does seem a little bit too reality show-ish for me, it is cool to bring some more attention (hopefully mostly positive) to the aquarium hobby. I would have to say that of the two shows I am more interested in "Fishtales".
