I like January parties personally.......there is SO much to do in December, especially if you have to travel somewhere like we do (6+ hours one way). I feel like the pressure of Christmas is over in January /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Lets change the title of the "party." Why does it have to be X-mas.
CR/IC area New Year Meet and Greet Social. It's a New Year, lets meet some new friends.

Just want to make some things clear first. (Active members) one's that pays for member ship and has helped behind the scene's and help new and old in the salt world from water changes to coral problems paid membership or not.

Or paid members that have been doing alot of the work at this time and making this a great club. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/plain.gif

That is the nature of all clubs Been there done that,

I don't like the term (active) never have. Now are we talking payed members (active) or non payed members that we should also invite and welcome

    Great idea David!

Rod I think what Kyle is getting at is members who have paid up on their annual dues. I'm sure that's all he meant by it. I wouldn't take it personally. Seriously Kyle is the easiest going guy you could meet.

I don't think it was directed at Kyle. I think him and Kyle go back pretty far from the freshwater world anyway.

I think he was more or less saying the term active can sometimes be misleading.

And I would like to see some non-paid members come to an event like this. Get them a chance to meet new people and see what the club and this area has to offer. They do however need to be aware they may miss out on some of the activities depending on what all we decide to do at the party.

Typically, the Christmas party has been a (paying) member event, at least in the past, because the club usually buys the bulk of the food for the Christmas party. Sort of a perk for paying members.........I was under the belief that non-paying members are welcome to attend one club event without being a paying member to check things out to see if they want to join.

First I'm not taking it personally and I am a pay member and I am sorry if I hurt anybodys feeling But I think this is a chance to get none paying members and not (active)/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/shocked.gif involved as much as possible and help them out. And if you want to keep calling my name out that is fine I am a big boy Andy-David

I was agreeing with you 100%. This event, or an event should be geared at getting people involved more with the CR/IC group and the club. Welcome paid and non-paid Get faces to names, and make those relationships.

Yea....I'm not sure what page we're on here. :/ No offense dealt, none taken.

Yes Fawn is correct, all non-paying members can attend one event per year to "test drive" the club. Also I think since the club picks up the tab on these one's by-and-large we will limit this upcoming event to paying members. We would LOVE to see ALL of our area members come out of the woodwork for this one and start the year out with a strong sense of community.

Community is something our area has been building on for the last couple of years and we have a great core. If anybody has suggestions for how we can improve area involvement please drop me a message and we will go to some great legnths to make this possible!

Sorry, I can't make either of those dates, both due to Rotary events way out of town. I'm missing the group of you, but can't help it. Cripes, we're scheduled for sleeping bags at a camp in January. GAH!!!

I voted for the Jan. date, but I think I'm good for either (that could be a choice too, I guess).

Kyle and I were throwing around some ideas about getting new folks involved in the club. I like the idea of folks being able to come to one event. It might be cool if we have a "Beginners Group" or something of the sort. We could partner with a local shop and do a "How to Start a SWT" event or something. We could have similar events once a month centered around beginner isses, like "how to not let your nitrates get crazy out of control." /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/ermm.gif

We could partner with local schools and do something similar or something just straight educational. I know my daughter's elementary would love a tank tour or to just have someone come in and talk about reefing.

I have many more ideas and this is not the venue for the discussion, perhaps. Suffice it to say that this kind of stuff it a big part of what I do day-to-day and if the club had a...PR/Events Coordinator position...that'd be something I'd be interested in doing. Mayb ethere is such a position and I don't know about it. If we were proactive in engaging the public I think we'd see some pretty awesome results.

Sounds like we have an up and coming board member on our hands! lol

yah those are all great ideas. We will have a lot to discuss at our holiday party. Other than just a social and meal we will probably spend a lot of time talking about this years itinerary and getting goals put down for our group.

I would be happy to put a slide show together to take to an elementary class, and we have Elliots projector to display it. I don't know if you want a sidekick but I work second shift and I'm off all day, we could do something like this any time.
