I try to support my LFS when I can but it sure was refreshing to visit Hung at SOM. I haven't been there for a while (an hour plus drive) but his new store is well stocked with healthy fish and coral. He carries some nice bigger high end fish and coral.
Have you ever been to a LFS, saw a fish you liked then asked to see it eat only to get the response "It eats just fine"? What if you take their word for it, get it home and it doesn't seem to want to eat what they told you it eats. Now what? I won't buy a fish unless I see it eat something besides brine shrimp.
I only had to show interest in a fish and Hung would feed it and tell me a little about it without me having to even ask.
His hours are 2-7 except sunday 2-5, and closed tuesday. If you want some healthy nice fish or coral and are willing to spend the extra money for quality I suggest you pay a visit.

I like Hung quite a bit and do my best to give him my business when he has things I want. His fish stock has been nothing but great to me, his coral selection has been lacking from what I've seen lately, though.

Hung does a good job of qualifying the buyer...for example, he won't sell a mandarin to someone that just set up a tank. They don't have the pods to support it, it will just whither and die. Hung does good with his fish stuff for sure. Last time I was there, his coral tanks had seen better days and his fish inventory was a bit low, but he was shooting me competitive prices on the fish (similar to Live Aquaria - for example $49 on a nice sized long nose hawkfish - small ones are $39 on Live Aquaria before shipping) and they all looked healthy. One thing you won't often see in his shop are sick or dead fish in his tanks. You can't say that for some of the other stores that do more volume, and certainly not the national franchises. I would buy fish with confidence from Sea of Marvels.

The thing I find odd about that place is that there are never prices on anything /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/blink.gif

Most of my fish have come from SoM...I haven't lost one. They've all been healthy and immediately eaten when I've brought them home. I'm looking to add a Flame Angel soon....SoM is the only place where I'll buy one.

I've never had a problem with Hung since I got into this hobby in 2003 when he was in Coralville.
Always given me good deals and I hired him to help me move my tank from IC to Riverside in 2006.
Great guy...problem now is when I take my son with me he's more interested in playing with my son! [IMG]

Back when he was in Corallville I bought a ton of stuff from him. He was always friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Plus his fish rock. I remember him showing me spawning shrimp, back when that wasn't something that happened. Buy without reservations.

He goes by a barter system.   The more times you are they and buy stuff from him, the more of a deal he'll give you.
Plus if you see a big piece of coral, you can talk him into splitting it to a price/size you want.

Oh yeah. I've purchased a couple of my fish from him and I have never had any problems with them.  I got a piece of Sunset Monti from him for a price that was reasonable for the club board.  It's always been worth the half hour drive to drop by and take a look around.
