I have a 28g nano that is set up and has cycled. It has no livestock besides living rock and snails and a mini hermit crab. The nitrates have been 20ppm for weeks and will not go down. I've been doing 4 gallon water changes weekly, but then I checked my tap water and found that 10 - 15ppm are coming from there. I started using RO water for my ATO and water changes about a week ago, but they are still at 20ppm.

I was thinking about getting some chaeto, but I don't know where to put it. Any ideas or recommendations on how I can lower those nitrates? Here are some other details about tank:

    CPR Aeroforce Protein skimmer

Chemipure & Purigen (About 10 days old on the Purigen)

    36w PAR38 14k Full Spectrum Bulb

I was thinking I might be able to put the chaeto in the side of the CPR skimmer, but there isn't really any light back there.

    Thanks guys!

    Mike

    Yes tap water sucks!

Do more water changed with RO water. Forget the cheato for now unless you want to put it in your display for a few weeks until your nitrates go down.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 20 isn't great, but not terrible either. I've had my nitrate hang out high like that for a while on a new tank and it always camdown after abit. Water changes with ro will help. Are you ready to add fish?

I've found out unless you can get it to tumble, it becomes more of a nitrate factory.

I'm ready to add fish. Two baby clownfish sometime this week. I'd like to do corals some day, but I'm in no rush.
