So i made an adapter for my rodi and i need to tighten a part but i had it "on" for an hr and a half and nothing came out from the clean or waste side. I sucked on the clean hose and got it started to trickle but nothing from the waste. I sucked on that tube and couldnt get anything. I know this sounds stupid but does the membrane and filters need to "fill"? Its a used unit so i dont know how long it should take. Thanks all!

What’s your household water pressure and does your system have any check valves? Did the prefilters fill with water right away? Is your flow restrictor the right direction? It shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to start producing water. Without seeing the system it's hard to say what the problem is. Start where the water goes in and work from there to see were the flow stops. What did you use to tap into your household water supply? Sorry for all the quesitons:)

Like mentioned above, follow the flow of water. Hook up the adapter and your line to the RO/DI unit. Now, disconnect the RO/DI unit so that it is just the adapter and first line. Turn on the water... Get anything? No, then it is the line or the adapter, yes, and it should be a prett good flow, then turn off the water and continue.

    Connect the RO/DI unit.
Unscrew the filter canisters (that hold the filters) and turn on the water.
Water coming out of where the first canister was? Yes? Turn off the water, and put the first canister and its filter on and turn the water on again.
Water coming out of where the second canister was? Yes? Turn off the water, and put the second canister and its filter on and turn the water on again.
Water coming out of where the .... canister was....

Don't forget to disconnect the RO membrane form the system to make sure that water is still flowing though all of the above mentioned filter canisters.
Then hook up the DI canister and check flow.

Somewhere in that mix, water should be flowing and then suddenly stopping.

Just be systematic about it and take it one component at a time.

A picture would help a little too.

Oh, and a dumb question, but you are connecting the supply up to the "IN" side of the RO/DI and not the "OUT" side of it, right? I heard of people having RO/DI units that werne't clearly labeled and since this is a used unit, you might not have the documentation for it to help you out, so it would be worth a double check.

I dont have canisters. They are inline filters. I hooked it up so water went in and followed the flow ---> arrow

Without seeing it in person it's hard to say, those units are poorly designed and are actually more expensive in the long run since they do not use standard replaceable filters. Also any company that designs a horizontal DI canister should not be making filters IMO DI resin needs to be vertical so the water flows through it, not up and over it. I would do what nick said and track the water down to where it is stopping one filter at a time. Is anything labeled so you can tell what is what on it? Was this a new unit?

Did you try calling them. I have one of their RO units and have called them about their filters and recommendations and they were very helpful . That is where i would go for answers.

Used unit. The filters are labeled and have an arrow for flow. I had to pretty much replumb it cause it was messed up. I followed the downloadable instructions from AW&I

You'll have to start "unplumbing" it from the water source then to see where the water stops flowing. So if it was a used unit do you know what shape the filters are in?

I was told they were still ok. Ill take it apart and start looking at each one.

I've never seen a ro unit that has the carbon filter before the sediment filter.......it should be the other way around...sediment, carbon, RO then DI. but that wouldn't stop the flow.

100% agreed. That is what I was trying to get to when I thought that you had a traditional RO/DI and this this style... Have water flow through just the first stage, and then plug in the second only, if it flows there, connect the third... etc...

Right - unless the carbon fines plugged the sediment filter.

Couldn't agree more. We've never fabricated systems like this and never will. I've got to sleep at night!
