I want something different in my reef tank. I haven't decided what yet, but I have a short list; Harlequin Tusk, Lionfish, or a puffer. I understand that they have the potential to eat inverts and I'm not worried about that, but what about my corals? Have any of you kept them in your reefs?

I had a puffer fish in my reef tank. Not a problem until a powder brown got the food first... Puffer didn't miss his meal.
Took the lips and teeth off the tang and died once scar tissue overgrew. Feeding frenzy gone bad

I had a baby tusk once...loved it... but didn't stay very long as my mystery wrasse wain't having it! The only real issue I see in those three (besides inverts on all of them) is the lion. A lion can be done...but keep in mind how often your hands/arms need to be in a reef tank compared to a fish only...and keep in mind he will be in there too. A lot of people have issues with them in reefs because once adjusted to captivity they aren't really afraid and will come around when your hands are in the tank and there lies the potential for getting stung.

I had a 6 inch Aussie Tusk and was great except with smaller wrasses. I had to rehome him. Never touched a coral or my Fire shrimp.

Thanks for the input. I'd really like a tusk again. My last one didn't last long, once acclimated, he swam directly into my carpet anemone. No saving him after that :(

Had a couple of lions in a reef (one got to about 15") and never had an issue. They are pretty slow moving so never had an issue with my arm in the tank. Now, the Niger trigger was another story as he always made a rush at my hand when it was in the tank.
