I have a 55 gal tank and am having issues with part of a group of pulsating xenia's - there are four stalks and two of them are all shriveled up and not looking very happy. I have a gorgonia that hasn't looked very happy for a few days but that seems to be better tonight. Salinity, pH, nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia are all ok - phosphates were not at zero but very low (I have a hard time differentiating the color scale on that particular test) but I'm in the process of doing a water change right now to fix that. I also have a phosphate absorbing material in the filter just in case. Frog spawn, leathers, mushrooms, candy canes, and green star polyps all seem to be fine. Anything that the xenia's might be particularly sensitive to? Anything else I should be testing for? The tank has been up and going for right at a year, had issues in the begining getting corals up and going so I'm hoping I'm just paranoid and the water change will fix whatever is going on. The xenia's are just a favorite to watch...

Is it possible that you have some aiptasia, majano or something else that's irritating them? Xenia is fun to watch...that and GSP when there's lots of flow in the tank :)

I would just doing your water changes and see how it goes. I have had some stuff going a little crazy in my tank lately so now I am concentrating on water changes. I am going to do a few extra these next few weeks.

Do they still appear to be getting good flow?

I've had issues in the past with gsp/anthelia/xenia that became very unhappy when the flow was interrupted to them.

I had something similar happen. I had some Anthelia / waving hands that was growing and spreading like crazy....too much!! So, to keep it from spreading over the entire tank, I separated their rock from the other corals. So they had non-choice lighting and good, but different, flow. Within a month some of the stalks started withering. Then they started dying off. Now I have none. Yet, all the other softies and LPS are doing great. So, I went from a near infestation to complete annihilation. So, even easy corals are temperamental and don't like drastic changes in their environment.
