Received about 6 inches of rain here in Waterloo this morning.
The roads looked like rivers.  218 was closed, La porte Road was closed.
I saw one of our car lots from about a block away.  Water was over the headlights & about a foot up on the front door.
I guess we  will find out how good our insurance is.

Wow...I saw pics of what Oelwein got and it was just like what you were describing Craig. Hope your insurance takes care of everything!

My sump pump failed. Apparently it can only run for about 20 minutes at a time and then shuts down. I lost my gaming PC, with all my kids pictures and videos, a $1500 bass guitar and amp, about a grand worth of audio recording equipment, less than 6 month old carpet and drywall, among a bunch of other things. So pretty much everything electronic that was downstairs safe from the kids is now ruined.

I called my insurance company and they told me I am pretty much screwed. Why do I pay them every month again?

    Wow Jeremy

Tell them it was sewer back up, almost all insurance companies cover that. Then tell them the sump pump got plugged with garbage & couldnt keep up.

We ran into a similar situation about a year ago, but not nearly as devastating.  A basement flood will only be covered if it's a sewer backup and if you have the sewer backup rider on your policy (at least that's how American Family insurance works).  Then, all that's covered is your home itself (i.e. drywall, insulation, paint, carpet, etc.).  No possessions are covered; the exception being appliances such as washer, dryer, furnace, hot water heater, dehumidifier, etc.  The adjuster that we worked with was very fair and even gave us credit for some items that were questionable as to whether they should be covered or not (i.e. area rugs - technically possessions, but he treated them as carpet).  Good luck in getting the insurance company to cover some of it Jeremy.  A little something is better than nothing.

One other thing, if you're going to replace your sump pump, get a Simer with a Lifetime Warranty. Menards is really good about standing behind them and will do an on-site replacement vs. having to send it in. I ran into that last year when I had my sump pump float switch fail. I had just put it in one year earlier and when I brought it in, Menards gave me a replacement on the spot, no questions asked. Coleman also has sump pumps with lifetime warranty on them too.

So now for the good news, my wife was diagnosed with Pluracy earlier today is doing a lot better. Also, my hard drives still work!!! All four were submerged for 4 hours. I took off the mainboards and dried them out and put them in my usb docking station and they all spun up!!!

Hopefully the same will be fore my PC but we will see.

I was able to get the carpet pulled up and hopefully it will stop raining soon so i can get it outside to dry.

Wow...when it rains, it pours, literally.   Any idea what caused the Pluracy?  Glad she's doing better...sounds nasty from what I read on Wikipedia.  That's amazing that the hard drives still work...what brand were they?  I know they all have air vents in them, but the air pressure inside and the filter material membrane must have been enough to seal out the water.  Amazing!

Not sure where the pluracy came from, I am just glad she is doing better. She was in some serious pain this morning.

The hard drives were SEAGATE, now I think I know why they call them that.

I am ready to get this mess behind me and move on. Hopefully my PC will fire up as well. The CPU and RAM stayed dry but I am concerned about the Radeon HD 4890, it has some burnt solder joints but so did the drives, so we'll see.
