So, you all know I bought a mandarin and a damsel as my first fish. I have told you that the mandarin eats frozen food...and she does. We went to Petco today to ask about reef janitors because the green algae is insane. I told him (I can't remember his name) about my mandarin purchase and that it eats frozen. He said "Get copepods" I had read up on how to cultivate them. I told him "but she eats frozen". He said that would work for awhile but to get copepods. He asked about her behavior and I said she's all over the rocks. He said you probably have copepods. He told us to wait until it was dark and turn off all the lights and shine a blue LED light in to see them.....THEY WERE EVERYWHERE. All over the glass runnin' from the light! We are super excited!! We either got them from my brother's water, we got half of our tank water from him and he has copepods OR from the live rock we got from the LFS. We don't care where we got them, but we got'em!!

Now you just need to sustian them to keep the mandarin happy. I would suggest getting Cheato, and keep them going.

That is awesome, pods are a sign of a healthy tank.

I cant remember if you have a sump or refugium or not, but they are great places to increase the population.

I've never heard that about the LED....does it have to be a BLUE LED?

I would imagine that anything but white would work. I used a really small light, tons of stuff floating around in there! It was really funny to see these things that looked like a VERY small air bubble scooting back and forth on the glass...they run from the light.
