dose them with pig de-wormer today before they get out of hand. No harm to the rest of the tank. If you have those big daddies roaming around, you have a bazillion ba-bays too! Treat now or regret it later. Flatworm Xit is snake oil, IMO
been there done, it, no worms today. just ich!

I'm with Chad on dosing now and using pig wormer. Get rid of them now before things get out of control. I got a six line wrasse thinking that it would control things...WRONG! Added another wrasse, and finally another. The population grew faster than the wrasses and now I still have a bunch of flatworms in addition to two fat sixlines and one lazy melanarus wrasse. After months, I think they are finally starting to get them in check...at least down to the point where I feel comfortable hitting my tank with pig wormer.

I disagree that Flatworm eXit is snake-oil, but I don't think it works at the recommended dosage. I've heard from many people that it didn't work for them as directed. Marc Levenson has a great article on his site where he talks about getting rid of them flatworms (http://www.melevsreef.com/flatworms.html) At the end, he talks about testing in a smaller volume of water to see how resistant they may be and then basing your full tank dosing on that information.

In any case, if you dose something to get rid of them, make sure you have the carbon ready. If you have a lot of them, siphon out as many as you can first, then treat. Once it looks like you've got em all, run that carbon and do a water change.

Talk to Chad (reefified). He can give you the details on what he did and where he acquired it from. I got mine from him.

They look like the small ones that do not grow to epic proportions in aquariums. The bad kind are normally red/brown/ light bronze and larger. They also dont have as long of "horns" on the front of them and are not as long and skinny. If you know someone that has the Julian Sprung "Invertebrates, a quick reference guide" book and would let you borrow it - http://www.amazon.com/Invertebrates...1883693004 it shows the differences. There is a pic of the bad, and also of the ok ones. Make sure you read the picture captions. Dose your tank if you feel the need....just thought id put this in here so you would have another option and could think about it. Goodluck :).

I wasn't being fair about the Flatworm Xit, it isn't snake oil. I just had to dose about 4 times the dose to get any to die and that still didn't die. I was able to order the pi dewormer since by brother own cattle. I looked at the local farm and fleet but no love. Search the internet, I think mine is called Levamisole. look for the actice ingredient in that in a similar product if necessary. The dosage ends up being like 1tsp per 120 gal but I acidentally went 3 times that (know it all engineer) and everything was fine after several months.  I have enough for you if you want some. I live in Marion and may be going to Iowa City this weekend. Let me know, I would be glad to help.

I think the 2x to 4x dose is common.  I'm not sure why they have their dosing the way they do...I don't think I've heard of anyone being successful with it at a 1x dose.
