Sprint says I have to use a sprint phone. I was looking at the touch pro 2. But other providers like at&t and us cellular sells these models as well. Are they just feeding me a line to sell me their phone or can I use these other phones and just get it hooked up? Thank you in advance.

You would have to unlock the phone to use it on Sprint. Usually ever provider puts their own programing in it and make it only work on there service unless your smart enough to unlock it. I might not be exactly right but that is the jist of it. Just wanted to make sure you would understand things Nick /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif

ya there may be companies that use the same phone but all programming is different and networks are different. my brother has tried to get around the companies and buying phones not meant for that service and they werent right, i would just get the phone from the provider and then hack away if you want to mod it from there

You can always unlock phone. Don't know if I would try, but I have thought about it, and then sell my BB.

ATT uses GSM while sprint uses CDMA and iDEN. This basically means that the cellular radio is a different technology. The same phone is actually a different model (for example ATT might have the touch 2 phone model 1000x while Sprint has the touch 2 phone model 1000y and US Cellular has the touch 2 phone model 1000z) for different companies because the hardware (radio) has to be different. Right now I believe that one can interchange ATT and T-Mobile phones with one another and Verizon and Sprint can be interchanged. I do think that all networks will be a shared technology when the 4G networks start rolling out next year, but don't quote me on that. That said, it will take quite a while to get full-on 4G coverage especially in Iowa /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif There are a few things that I miss about living in Cali LOL.

correct, because it only uses the edge network, and i wireless is an offshoot of T-Mobile that also uses the edge network. The point is that you need to make sure that the network you want to use supports the antenna in your phone and vice versa.
