my mom has cancer and things arent going so good.  she has a cat that is 9-10 years old and doesnt like anybody but her.  she feels the best thing to do is put her to sleep.  my mom has raised the cat from a kitten and its just been them 2 the whole 10 years, she has been bitten several times and the cat is over weight and spoiled. we cant take her as we have 2 cats and my daughter is very afraid of here.  does the arl do assessment before adopting out?  would it be best for me to try and find a home or what mom says and put her to sleep?    help and advice much appreciated. thxs matt

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I'm sure it is tough to give up her cat as well. You could always explain the situation to the ARL first. A chance of finding a home is better than euthanasia in my opinion but ultimately it is up to you. I have had good luck with ads in the local shopper or maybe even Craig's List. I have 5 cats now, all stray rescues and a couple don't get along as it is, so I am afraid I can't help. Good luck, and again, my sympathies.
