opinions on a hobbiest only frag fest?

    So i know I would have to get some approval through the board members for this but I have a fairly good size location that could be used for this probably not 100% free but details could be worked out.... bud (turbo) has actually seen the whole place. Anyways I guess I'm wanting to get a feel on people's opinions if they would like to have a frag fest with no sponsors or commercial sellers in June or July in Des Moines right off of I 80? Let me know what your thoughts are i know there are several hobbiest that have plenty of frags maybe some more then others (Sponge lol)

    LOL is right Armydog! I just posted in the Ds Ms region about this idea for maybe August...a frag swap! LOL {Look under the June Mtg post} I was thinking just for Ds.Ms members so you are thinking any GIRS members'? I hadn't thought about that...doh!

    Anyway, I like the idea whether it be for all GIRS members or just our Region. I have tons of frags, like usual. Many of the zoas are overgrowing most of the frag plugs :) Since our region doesn't have a July meeting, I was thinking August. This would give people time to plan it and plenty of time to frag and heal those frags!

    I have no problem with either a GIRS wide or just our region. Like I said, I hadn't thought about a GIRS wide one as I was just brainstorming for our Regions' meetings....

    I'm thinking girs in every region because i think it would be good to all get together ect plus it would be more people. .. fall fest is gonna be kinda a hit or miss for people cause of it being in November and the potential for snow storms are pretty good during that month lol

    Hmm... I wo t have a ton of frags just due to the last fragging and splitting of the tanks. But I could certainly have a hanful by that time (zoas anyone...)
    But I would totally come dow. For a frag swap/fest. If its after the ic/cr area meetup I think I wojld have a pretty good read on the members, and it would probably seal the dea for mel to be a member of girs.

    Alright so 3 people besides myself said they are interested in this with over 85 views lol..... Please put if this would be something you would be interested in a simple yes or no would be awesome then we could star t another thread of who would like to sell at it

    Donnie, I think you do this deliberately just to get me in trouble with my wife again LOL. I won't have anything to sell but spending money on frags has never been an issue. Great idea!

    I would be interested depending on when its gonna be. I have lots of kids baseball tournaments going on but I can see if it works out. I have some stuff ready.

    I'm interest. But make sure you weight all the pros and cons. Keep in mind if we have an extra frag fest this will hurt the attendance/money spent at Fall Fest. And if a commerical dealer does not make enough money they will stop attending our Fall/Spring fests. We had this happen the year we had MACNA. Not a lot of people attended Fall Fest hurting the commerical dealers.

    See I don't think it will hurt a commercial vendor at all considering we all sell frags all of the time and if that was the case maybe frag fest should only be commercial vendors then each area has their own frag fest for hobbiest. ... from my understanding there are big waiting lists anyways for spring and fall fest but it usually just the same ones picked to come..... Also commercial vendors will have more of a variety of corals stuff that not many of us have. As far as macna hurting fall fest well considering macna was like 1 month before fall fest I can see why it did. A snow storm will most likely hurt fall fest in November then a hobbiest frag fest in July or August js.
