What has been your experience owning, or 'trying' to own, a Copperband Butterflyfish? How long was your tank established before getting one? I'm debating getting one for my 90, but I'm very leary as I've read many horror stories.

I have seen that Sea of Marvels and Pets Playhouse both have quite a few in stock. They both received shipment last week, so the distributor must have had a truck load. The ones at Pets Playhouse have been there a week and look very good...fat and happy. From what I was told, they have been eating a mixture of flake, pellet, and dried mysis.

I recently acquired 2 of them when we went to pick out some fish for the store. Both were eating frozen food before we brought them home, which I think is the biggest obstacle in owning them.
I have found that using a combination of rods pacific plankton and spirulina brine has gotten some of the most picky eaters to become pigs.

I bought one from sea of marvels over a year ago and it is doing great. I had lots of aiptasia for him to feast on at first which seemed to ease the transition to frozen food. I have a 180, but think a 90 would be adequate.

I got one about 4 weeks ago. It ate frozen in the store, but mainly forages in my tank (it'll take a bite of food if it floats in front of its face, but shows a very week feeding response). Be careful adding with tangs, my powder brown beat the day lights out of it for a day, when the aggression subsided there were injuries to the cb. If I had to do it again, I would pass if there are resident tangs in the set-up, it was way more brutal than I expected.

If you buy one from a store make sure it is eating frozen food in front of you first or you can check out LiveAquaria divers den section, the ones they sell there are weened onto frozen foods before being sold. I've purchased 2 from there over the past years and they have always ate frozen foods within a day. They are hard to get though as they sell within a minute or 2 of being posted usually. Updates at 5pm eveyday

I actually got mine from pets playhouse a couple months ago and its doing great, ate mysis and brine the first time i fed after i got him and ive never had any aptaisia for him to munch on and hes healthy and happy. Does pick at the rocks alot tho, mainly the small tube worms/featherdusters not corals tho. Ask them to drop in a cube of mysis if they will or bring one with you and go for one that digs em' (if they all dont or theres too many in tank to go for a specific one). Ive always had good luck with fish from pets playhouse, sea of marvels ive heard is really good......but petco definately not so much.

I talked to Sherry (Mike's wife), who feeds the fish. She is feeding them the dry mixture because she didn't want to start them on frozen (although I don't really know why)...however, if they're eating dry stuff, they must have acclimated to captivity ok. But, I'm not going to rush into it. I'll watch them to see how they do over the next few days. And, it's good advice to see them eat, so I won't buy one without seeing her feed them.

Thanks for the feedback all...I've been pretty gun shy about getting one...but, I admit they are among the more beautiful butterflies.

And...for those looking for Raccoon butterflies, Pets Playhouse has some huge ones.
