Well I was going through a bunch of work with my 65 and building a new stand (pic attached), drilling the tank, adding a sump, etc. when disaster struck. While drilling the tank the glass broke, it ended up being tempered, and while trying to figure out why it wasn't labeled as tempered I found a tiny warning label tucked away in a corner and the 3rd bullet point down was the "Do not drill". There wasn't the bright orange sticker between the tank and bottom brace through the middle like I had seen before. Expensive lesson learned.

Out of the broken glass though comes a new build! Marineland apparently has a sale in March so I ordered a new 90gal RR with stand that should be here tomorrow. Considered going up to 120 but the price jump was a bit too much for the unplanned expense. Here is the new equipment I'm thinking (I'll be reusing what I can from the 65 setup):

eShopps R-200 (one with the refugium)
    Reef Octopus Classic 150-INT skimmer
Quite One Pro 3000 (758 GPH) return pump

The tank comes with the durso setup I believe but I've been doing some reading on that vs a herbie and not necessarily coming up with anything pushing me one way or the other. I know Bean Animals provide the benefits of both setups but I'm not looking to drill any more holes. Anyone had good/bad luck with the setup provided by Marineland? I have determined a gateway valve is better option than a ball valve for fine tuning on the intake but please let me know if that doesn't sound right.

Anything else I should be thinking about? Thanks as always!

Sorry to hear about the disaster!

Are you looking to put a valve on the pump intake to throttle back the flow? A 758 gph return pump shouldn't be excessive on a 90g in my opinion... in fact I'd consider stepping it up if you don't have any additional flow from powerheads. Also, if you're going to restrict the flow it should be done on the output side of the pump rather than the intake. Maybe I'm not following your plan correctly though.

Sorry, I guess that wasn't really clear. Basically I had read some stuff online about people taking the 2 holes in the overflow and doing a herbie overflow instead of using the durso that comes with the tank, but I've decided to just stick with the durso after talking with some people that have them. So the intake into the sump will not have a valve at all but I am going to put a ball valve on the output side of the return pump like you suggested just in case.

Sounds like the 758 gph should be enough from the conversations I've had, plus I've got two Jebao PP-4s from the 65 to use in there as well. The tank came in yesterday as expected and I was able to do a water test last night which was successful. Picked up a Reef Octopus 152-S skimmer instead of the 150-INT because it was a couple inches shorter and a little bit smaller footprint. I'll hopefully have it full of water and starting to cycle this weekend!
