Has anyone ever heard of dosing peroxide to control algae growth?  A friend said someone told him about it, but I would need some first person testimonies before I thought about it.

This has worked wonders for my tank. I came across this thread on Reef Central and I tried it and the tank looks 100% better. Here is the link to the thread "pico reef pest algae problem challenge" my pics are on page 9 and 10. Read the whole thread since H2O2 can have a negative affect on some corals. Good luck and let me know how it turns out. [IMG]

Thanks! Lots of reading to catch up on here. What I gather from the first few pages is that this is a targeted spot treatment method, and not a dosing/additive to the water column, correct?

I know thta I was a little overwhelmed initially but if you post your tank information brandon is good about letting you know what he opinion is. He suggest for the best results to remove infected pieces and spot treat by spraying or dipping the pieces. Some of your inverts will have a negative reaction to the raised O2 levels if you dose the tank. There are people in the thread that have dosed the tank but it is dependant on what is in the tank. This is only a temporary fix and if the initial cause of why the out break happened is not addressed then it will happen again. I have noticed that the grow back period is taking longer and I have also added a grazer to help keep the growth down. If you post your thoughts he is usually back to you within a day, mostly within a couple hours. Good luck.

Hey thanks for the info! I finally blood and guts'd it on a few test pieces. GHA gone in under 2 days. Green bubble algae gone in 3-4 days. Mystery red bubble algae bleached and dead, but shells still hanging on in 5 days. I'm planning a re-aquascaping soon, so I can go ahead and hit the rest of the problem spots at the same time and start over fresh. Interestingly, I decided to sacrifice some pulsing xenia that has been a bit of a pain and was right in the middle of the GHA, but surprisingly, 5 minutes in peroxide didn't even faze it! Go figure...

Great to hear. That's why I like this forum so much, you get to pay it forward. Remember to post pics to RC he loves to see the results in the thread as well as me too. GOOD LUCK w/ the rest of the tank.
