Yay! Yesterday I went in to work and my boss asked me a question about working fish vs. being an on the floor as an all animal salesperson (pet councelor vs. fish geek as we say it). She pointed out that I had been a pet councelor only working one day in "pets" and three days in fish. She then asked if I would rather be considered a Fish Geek who worked a few hours as a pet councelor.
Long story short, the fish at petland have a new Fishy Mommy!!! They had plenty of dads before with Andie, Adam, etc... but I'm the first Fish Geek girl, therefore, I am the fishes new mommy /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif (If you hadn't noticed before, I'm kinda a dork that way)
So YAY!! Just wanted to spread my happy.
    Have a nice day!

    Congrats,

    This is Petland in IC?

Hopefully you can turn the mentality of the sales people there around.

I think a quote from one of the fish guys was "Girs is a bunch of Redneck reefers who have no true knowledge"

It will be nice to have one of "us" working there now.

Yes, my bubbly personality was one of their big reasons for adding me. As for making fun of girs, I dont think that guy works at petland anymore. Everyone at work seems to like girs. And apparently its rather funny to see the customers interact with a girl fish nerd. I wouldnt know but the other guys say they can tell some of the regulars get all cute and flustered which is kinda funny. The only problems I've had so far are with long time male 'fish experts (no offence ment to anyone). They always treat me like a dumb ditsy girl that couldn't possibly know anything about fancy stuff like saltwater. Oh well, everything else is good!! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/hybrid//emoticons/smile.gif

If it was a huge reef cube then yes. Its the first thing you see when you get to the fish dept. Its pretty neat. Has a huge nem with a pair of clowns n a bunch of misc fish.

Sounds like I need to make a stop at Petland, when I go south to a LFS...to see if you're doing your job well, hahal. I usually go to SoM or Coralville Bay..haven't yet been to Petland.

They got it up and it was sweet for a couple of months with some nice sps colonys from double J then it had a crash and killed all the SPS. Now it is kind of basic still cool though.
Congrats on the new job title! I haven't been in there for a while I'll have to stop in soon and check things out.

Yeah, its nice I get to look at the list each week to see if there are any frags I want or that I think would be neat to sell. Only thing is most of them are scientific names so I have to google to find out what they look like.

I am also in the fish dept at our Petland in Omaha! I really love it, but sadly, the men are very sexist. They make it very obvious they would rather ask another man for advice and to get them their fish and coral, so your sales can suffer. it took me a long while to prove I knew what i was talking about. I have actually been in reefkeeping for 7-8 years longer than anyone in that dept to begin with! Besides all that, I work with the coolest people and all my local club members come visit me. We have a good time!

Yeah, I know what you mean but unfortunately, I definitely haven't been in saltwater for very long. I always let them know if I don't know something and make sure to go look it up real quick or ask my boss but I still know a lot of freshwater and basic saltwater but they won't listen to anything. But I agree, fish geeks at work are the funnest to work with and its awesome to meet all the GIRS people who come in /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/hybrid//emoticons/smile.gif
