ok I got a new ph probe from fosters yesterday calibrated it and checked my water it was not good. The old probe was with in .08 of the reading i was getting with the old probe. So why is my ph reading 7.34 at night. plus the show part of the tank has a ph almost .15 higher than the sump. Is that normal? So My alk is 13 now and my calcium is 400-420. magnesium is 1470-1490. salinity is 1.23. I have read a lot on this and can find no reason why it is happening. also sump is on reverse lighting and the skimmer has a hose running outside to help raise the o2 and cut down on house co2. Any body got any ideas?

No , just Ro/di water. I need to add reefbuilder or just buffer?

reefbuilder is a good ph buffer. my understanding is your ro water is so soft unless your using kalk you need to buffer it. This could be your problem, it is at the very least the issue i was having till i added a kalk stirrer. here is what I would do to get started. get a pitcher full of tank water and mix up some reefbuilder in it. it does not take much so make sure you do not over do it. and add that to your sump in a chamber after your skimmer. then start adding it to your top off water

That should be fine, I was going to go down the road of your temp maybe being too high, as that can cause subtle drops in pH.

While your pH is on the low side, I'm not sure I would be worried at this point..

Before you do this I would also do a water change, your alk is super high while your cal is on spot if not a tad low. and your mag is kinda high. get those in check. are you using a ATO? if you are maybe consider getting a kalk stirrer, it was one of the best things I ever did 2 little fishes has one for less then $100

Ok found out that my orp probe fell all the way into my sump and the top plastic is corroded. Looks like I was getting a false ready from my orp and that caused my ph to go out of wack. Ph is now 8.14. Thanks for all the help guys
