I'd like to know what people prefer/recommend for a PH test kit.  I've used the Instant Ocean test kit for many years and then switched over to the Salifert test kit about 6 months ago.  Neither provide much precision beyond the fact that its in the range 8.0 - 8.3.  The color differences are simply not good.  Is there something better, without stepping up to a PH probe?  Or anyone know of a non-expensive PH probe?

When I first started this hobby, I used API test kits for everything. Now I don't even test anymore. [IMG]

I'm with sone on this one. I use to worry that my ph was to low and tryed to buffer it all the time (even yhough the coral were fine) and the buffer caused tons of problems. As long as your ph is 7.8- 8.4 your good to go. I do check it every few months just for the heck of it.

I have a pH probe connected to a controller, although I have used Salifert tests in the past. There are also stand alone pH probes, then you just have to glance at the reading instead of testing.
