I just upgraded my 29 gallon reef tank to a 40 gallon cube everything has been pretty good but last night I checked my phosphates and they were at about 5.0 I don't quite know how bad that is I know I don't want any phosphates at all what is the best and safest way to quickly reduce the phosphate level in my tankplease let me know what you think I want to get my baby back on track

+1 on Gfo reactor ,but it's always best to find the cause of the high Phos level.
    Over feeding?
    Exhausted DI resin?
I would start by checking TDS of RO water. And the go from there.

+1 for that (test RODI), but GFO now is a waste of money. If your P is truly that high (not a faulty test kit) then you need to do some really big water changes, that's cheaper

I don't really know if my TDS meter is working correctly when I put it to in the TDS meter reads 34 when I put it to out it reads 45 I haven't really been paying much attention to it whenI use it because I just put new resin in it and have only used it a few times since

Dilution is the solution to pollution!

40 gallon tank with 5.0 ppm phosphate

    Change 6 gallons: 6/40 = 15%, 5.0ppm x 0.15 = 0.75ppm removed, result = 4.25ppm

most test kits are very difficult to differentiate anything over 1ppm, what kit are you using?

Best solution is to do a roughly 90% water change. Or you can do two back-to-back 50% or 75% changes

Check your RODI first. You are using RODI, right?
