Has anyone had good success at culturing their own pods? What are you using for a container to culture in? Lighting? What are you using for phyto? Do you keep chaeto in with the pods?

There are two type of main pods that can be easily cultured at home for aquarium use.

They are Tigger pods & Tisbe pods.

Both are Benthic pods which means they usually stick to surfaces rather then always swimming in open water.

Both of these you can feed paste phyto plankton instead of live. I have had luck just feeding them algae flake food. I feed them a shellfish diet phyto paste from Reed Aquaculture. A 1 qt bottle is about $65 and will last you months.

A five gallon bucket works well, or a round tub you get at a feed store. A light air stone just to keep the water moving. You really dont need to light them, any indirect light will be fine.

I keep live phyto in a 50g and a 29g tank for a light I run a 250w hqi mh 20k, after getting a phyto culture running I seed the phyto with pods.... It is not a batch system, I am feeding out of the two systems everyday.... And I also feed my phyto system....I run a a power head for water movement

I have an old 10g maybe I will use that. I have a bottle of tigger pods (thanks to roads) that I can use. I just need to figure out the phyto part. I was looking on the BRS site and they have some Brightwell phyto green, phyto gold. Is that what I want? Those come in different micron sizes?
