Please disable the tapatalk spam message. Every time I navigate around the site it pops up a new box to close.

The tapatalk message is configured to appear once every 60 days. The only way it would pop up more frequently is if your device is not storing the browser cookie that tells the site you've already seen the message.

It is spam. If I wanted it, I would have it. Now, this website is pushing it on me. I have private browsing turned on, and so it pops up every time. Don't say to turn off private browsing, I won't. If I wanted to have cookies on, they would be on. All this does is make me less likely to use the site and to participate in the club. As for more efficient, we have browsers. One app, every site and every forum. Why do I need a different app for every site I visit?

It's only "spam" because you have your browser set to not allow 1st party cookies thinking somehow that vastly improves your privacy (which it doesn't). You can't even log into this site (or most other sites) unless you allow 1st party cookies so obviously you are allowing time sometimes or you wouldn't have been able to post this message.

I'm not going to change the functionality of the site to pacify overly paranoid people, so you're not willing to change your browser settings you'll just have to deal with it. (see, I can act like a dick too).

And BTW, the Tapatalk client isn't just for this website. The one tapatalk app works with many 1000's of the forums out there (like Reef Central, etc) so at least try and understand what it is before you blast it.

I do understand what cookies are, and what they do, and how they are used. Again, I have my iPad browser set to private browsing, and accept cookies from site I have visited. This lets me log in, but not stay logged in. Do you have an iOS device? Do you see the behavior? If not, you shouldn't be judging me for choosing the privacy settings I have. Do not ascribe motivations for my behaviors. I know what tapatalk does, but if we let it creep over browsers, there will be new apps that will creep over it, and it Will turn into an app for each site. I don't want it. The behavior wasn't here a few weeks ago, why did you enable it? Does anyone want to be spammed by this message, even every 60 days? I pay to use this website as a member of a club, not to be advertised a bad forum browser. I guess the board can pick if a website behavior that drives away some amount of dues paying members, even if it is just me, and my apparent over paranoia, is worth tapatalk spamming screens for their app downloads.

While I dont find tapatalk especially useful, it does provide the absolute easiest way to post pictures from an IOS device, this alone makes it a worthwhile app in my opinion.

Being an iOS developer, I have multiple iOS devices so I'm very familiar with how it works. Even with private browsing turned on, I only see the Tapatalk prompt once per browser session (not every time I navigate around the site as you state). If I restart the browser, then yes, I do get prompted again but that's because private browsing on iOS doesn't allow cookie persistence. It takes me all of about 100ms to tap the cancel button and move on.

You pay to be a member of the club, but that doesn't give you the right to dictate how our site works. You don't like the pop-up., I get that. However, it's serving an important purpose and that's letting Tapatalk users (and there are bunches of them) know that our forum now supports the app.

I agree that it's not that much of a better experience on an iPad, but on a phone it's arguably a lot better.

Okay, fine, the implementation of it is broken. I just checked, if I am not logged in, from a fresh browser, it shows a new pop up each time a page loads. This is a broken behavior on a stock install of up to date iOS. Do you need me to take a video of proof? Instead of taking me seriously, I am accused of being overly paranoid, and of trying to dictate club terms. If you want people to use tapatalk, put up a banner ad, like all the other ads on the site. And it is an ad, don't kid yourselves. It is a link to a paid product. This ends up being a click through for a product that I don't want. Want that banner ad only for iOS users? Check the user agent. The website is broken for me, and my use case. If it made me click once, it would be annoying. Right now, a click on every page load? Broken. JB, I reproduced this by closing all girs tabs, quiting safari, and opening the girs forum not logged in. A pop up every load.

While I can see where it might be an annoyance in your RARE case, there are far more people thrilled with the tapatalk functionality that JB has helped develop and deploy on this site. As well as the countless other improvements he has made. You also have to remember he is not getting paid to do any of this for the club. He is a volunteer just like everyone else that works to make this club and its forum what it is. I would hate to guess how many hours he has in the massive upgrade that has happened on the site over the last several months. If there is indeed a problem i'm sure he will look into it, but don't be so overly critical of the work and the effort he is putting into this site to try and please the masses.

I am taking you seriously. What I don't appreciate is you automatically assuming that it's "bad code" and that it can't possiblly be an issue on your device. I can also show you a video of it working properly in private browsing mode on iOS (on multple device including the iOS simulator no less).

What you are describing is not the way the site is setup to work. What you are likely experiencing is some oddness in how Safari for iOS deals with cookies when switching to/from private browsing. I can duplicate what you are describing if I switch in/out of private browsing without selecting the "close all" options. In fact, I can get it to misbehave even if private browsing is turned off.

Go into General Settings -> Safari and then hit the "Clear Cookies and Data" button, then go back into Safari and visit the forums. I'm guessing you will see the Tapatalk prompt 1 more time, then after that it will not appear until your next session.

JB does an amazing job. I'm not disputing that at all.I don't think it's a rare problem if 4 of us have brought this up already.
if we didnt bring this up how else can we find a solution?
I cleared cookies & everything is working fine now.
    thanks for helping JB.

I have an Android phone and I NEVER get the Tapatalk pop up when using my browser. I am not using the built in browser though. I am using Dolphin Browser and have it set to emulate a desktop and not a mobile device. I do that because so many sites redirect you to a mobile version that is many times a stripped down version of the full site.

If I set it to act like an Android mobile browser, I get one Tapatalk popup when I first enter the forums. I can click around where ever I want, and even go back to the mail GIRS page and back to the forums page and still never get an ADDITIONAL prompt. Just the first one.

I can then exit completely out of the Dolphin Browser and go back in (still set as "Android Mobile") and I do NOT get prompted when entering the forums. It remembered my choice and that I closed out of the pop-up.

I then went and tried it with the built in browser on my Android phone and got the Tapatalk pop-up once. I clicked around through the forums, closed the browser, came back in, clicked around the forums again, and was never prompted even a 2nd time with a pop-up about Tapatalk.

Now, I've worked in IT for over 19 years including managing a group of web site and web app folks. While there certainly can be something on the server side of things (and many times there are), when things are inconsistantly working dependant upon who is using the site, the issue almost always, and I mean I can only think of 1 single time for the team over the course of 2 years with that team managing a MUCH more complex site than this one, where it was the server side. All of the other times it was on the client side. That is where the biggest variables are at, and where people would make claims such as "it works at other sites" or "it worked yesterday and is broken today" etc. Things that seemed to make complete logical sense to our customers almost always (again, I can think of only 1 single instance where it wasn't) ended up being on the client side. Now, this is for issues where it worked for some people and didn't work for others. No way am I claiming that the team didn't break something 100% on rare occasion (we had a test environment to help prevent production issues). GIRS doesn't have a test site and a production site. The folks working it aren't getting paid like my staff was, etc.

A little more "understanding" and a little less "anger" about a freely provided website should be taken into consideration.

So maybe it is the way that iOS devices handle cookies? Maybe it is some version of Angry Birds that has corrupted or modifed a key file (those darn piggies), maybe it is something related to a recent iOS broser update that is broken or provides a different setting or way to handle Tapatalk enabled sites. It is hard to tell...

What is needed is more iOS users that aren't having the problem to chime in with what is working. Then compare and contrast the differences.

Oh, and lastly, Tapatalk is awesome. It is only the 2nd app that I have EVER paid for in 5 years of having a smartphone and it is really a great way to participate in online forums on a mobile device.
