Just emptied and cleaned up my 50 fresh water tank with the intention of tearing down completely. Now that it's empty and cleaned up, I'm having second thoughts.

Although a little excessive, I was contemplating a grow out tank and maybe even a bubble tip propagation setup. Something to help the cost of new eye candy in the future for my 90 display. I'm tired of it looking empty and being told I can't spend anymore money from the ol' ball and chain ;)

Here's what the freshwater tank details were.
    Sumpless 50 gallon tank
    Canister Filter
2 t8 lighting units (stock with tank)
    1 300w LED lighting unit
And then the obvious, powerhead/wavemaker, heater, live rock etc etc which I have extra of everything laying around.

Thoughts / Suggestions on making it a grow out tank with above equipment? I do have a HOB skimmer but I'd prefer not to use it if possible.
    Thanks!

Well she's up and running! Waiting for the temp to get up there so I can throw in a huge chunk of rock from main tank for a quicker cycle (hopefully). I'll also be throwing in 4 sponge filters I've had in my sump the paste few weeks. Really supercharge the cycling process (again, hopefully).

Said chunk of rock has a massive amount of red shrooms on it. They are pretty much like cockroaches anyways, so why not. I have three other sm-md chunks of dry rock in there (total of ~25#). Will that be sufficient?

I also have a 10"x4" shallow container with a 1" sand bed for any future substrate corals or rock nems that I want to throw in.

What am I missing? What else should I do? :D

No way to tie it into a bigger system? That made my life a lot easier back in my frag tank days. Less maintenance and no concerns about moving anything directly from one system to the other.

Unfortunately they can't be tied together. If I end up moving this year, then I will do one large build where everything is plumbed together and have a fish room and the whole shebang. But that's a whole other deal ;). My current house and set up does not really allow for that kind of build.
