Just wondering what is everyone choice on power heads and how many also where you would be on tank placement. Do you like them high with a lot of surface movement or put them lower with little surface movement.

I put the power heads high in the tank so I can get some time if I see a nem on the move for one. I blend them between surface and lower as long as I stay out of the sand.

Rather than going big, go small and buy more, will allow you to customize the flow beater and create gyration

I use a Gyre 150 high up on one side to get a ton of surface movement. You want that for gas exchange. Then I use 3x Koralias on the back wall about 6" down pointed slightly upward or straight to circulate throughout the tank.

I run my powerheads lower in the tank and pointed slightly upwards. This being because I have four returns that come in at the surface that provide good surface agitation. This is on an 8' tank though. On my nano I have a small powerhead up high as well as the return and this provides good surface disturbance and good overall flow.
I think ultimately it depends on your tank size, shape/dimensions and then also your rock work
