I don't think it's a significant concern. Although I would never run a DC pump internal.

Yah I was aware of that, I've been with Elliot the past couple of days and mentioned you had been in contact with him. I'm sorry to hear that. I'll have a small window of time to see you on Friday if you want to get cracking on that project right away, otherwise we can meet up on Saturday! I'll PM ya later!

So work of the dialblos should I get? I could afford the 3500, but with having to buy 2 pumps I couldn't do the 5500. Andy, what would you take for the pump you have? I had to go out of town for a family emergency so I'll be wanting to get rolling when I get home this weekend.

Yah I think that 3500 is going to be fine, it has an impressive curve. According to the diagram it's doing 950gph @ 5' head pressure. @ 0 it's output is 1100gph. So whether you use that one or the one I have for the cl or return you're going to have similar results and I think either way it bodes well for this application.

Agree the 3500 should be sufficient for a return and maybe 1 other low flow reactor if you ever needed to tee it off. I think the larger size would be NICE to have so you would have the extra flow if you ever did need it down the road to tee other things (carbon/gfo/biopellect reactor/ frag tank/algae scrubber, etc).

Yah, I gotta say I agree. Plus it looks like they come with a controller? So you can change the speed of the pump as need be, so if the 5500 wass too much you could always throttle it down. Might not be too late to get on the phone with reef specialty or whoever you ordered through!

Its a long drive, what else is he going to do but post on GIRS lol.

I agree with Lee on going with a bigger pump. If you need the extra flow you would have it with the larger pump. Lets say you add a couple reactors, or want to use it to run the algae scrubber. You have a better chance of splitting off the larger model. Its going to be easier to dial back the pump if needed- especially with the DC ones where you can adjust the speed with a controller- than working with a pump that just isn't moving enough water.

So I got an email that the place I ordered from didn't have the Octopus pump in stock, but they did have the Speedwave dc pump that was the bigger model for the same price. So now ill have 1400 GPS available. Supposedly the are the same pump. We shall see.

I think they had a big pre-order for the octopus DC pump, so finding any in stock may be difficult for awhile.

Further reading has tools me that all these dc pumps are made by the same manufacturer in China and rebranded by whomever overhere. The. Speed wave I ordered is the same as the Reef octopus, but cheaper without that name. It shows up tomorrow. We shall see.

the tank plumbed and put some water in for a leak test. Got Andys pump hooked up to the loop. Hoping to fire it up this weekend.

I was wondering that, they all look the same just in different colors. Happy to know you were able to get the larger size for the same price! I'm going to wait for you to update us with your review/opinon before I go out and get one now!
