I have used and recharged purigen several times over the years without issue. I recharged again so I could put it in my new media basket (biocube 14, the basket rocks btw). Anyway I put the purigen in the basket in the evening and I woke up to my miami hurricane chalice dead. It looks like half the corals will live and half will not. Chalices got hit hard, all 5 dead, new crocea clam looks just find and the fish seem just fine too but a few other LPS I am not sure about.

It's pretty sad and my 1st big setback with my biocube which has been going really well and I was so excited for the new LED lights, clam and media basket. Oh well, live and learn I guess. Bright side is I can buy new corals?? Not much of a bright side right now.

I used almost an entire small bottle of prime, but I guess it wasn't enough. I couldn't smell anything, but I guess there was plenty left to kill my fav corals. I will not be placing recharged purigen back in that tank, the volume is so little, I would guess 7 gallons or less with all the rock in there, that any change hits the tank hard. The larger tanks 65g I placed the other bags in are just fine. I HATE when something in my care dies and it's my fault...

Soak in 1:1 bleach, it only took about 30 min to renew to white, then I soaked in water with couple tablespoons of prime, changed water the next day with more prime, changed water again of course rinsing between each step and let set in water overight again with a little bit of prime. Next day I changed water again with prime for few hours before placing in the tank.

I'm curious why it wouldn't hurt the fish? But Im sorry for your loss.

Thank you. I would guess that corals are more sensitive to chlorine and some are more easily damaged by it than others. It probably didn't add much into the tank and the amount it added would have been somewhat quickly dissipated into the air, but damage was done. The corals with a large surface area compared to volume seemed the hardest hit like chalices.
