I keep hearing how important having a QT/hospital tank and then I get
this tank with a nice looking stand, so I thought why not!!
I have a couple of questions concerning a idea for a quarantine tank I have.
I am thinking about using a 28 gallon bow front set up next to my 75 gallon DT, and plumbing it to share my sump.  I am thinking of letting it run constant until I need it for a hospital tank,  or a QT tank.  Then having a shut off and a box filter when I need to isolate it.  I would also have a separate return pump for it also.
    Is this a good idea?
    Any suggestions?
    Any comments?
I could also use this a a frag tank also, when not needing it.
I have just enough space next to my 75 for this to sit.  So it wont be in the way.  I would eventually like to put a 180 or 210 there, but for now a 75 will do..
    Thanks
    Ray

Ray I wouldn't plumb the two together. If you have a filter on it, just run with that. Using it for a frag tank in the mean time (Hopefully you never have to use it for a hospital tank!) should work just fine.

    Just my thoughts.

yeah you do not want your QT or hospital tank plumbed together with your DT. the idea is to not introduce whatever your fish may have to your DT.

now for a frag tank thats just fine.

I agree you dont want it plumbed to your main system. Another issue is with say ich you would use copper to treat it but copper is lethal to inverts and coral. You DO NOT want that in your main tank.

I guess I was thinking of when I had to use it as a QT tank, I would close it off then drain it completely and then add new water before returning it to the main system.

But now that I read your comments, I am seeing the bad that could happen. I think just putting it in writing helps also.

Thanks the feedback, I appreciate it.

If you use copper, doesn't that stay in the silicone and leach out into the water later?

so if i set up a QT/Frag tank is it ok to do just hang on the back filters? but then the question comes to the copper?

Frag tank and QT tank should not be the same tank. suppose you need to hyposalinty your QT tank, your coral wont survive that.
As far as HoB filters go, my first tank was a 55 gal sumpless tank that used a HoB skimmer and a marineland biowheel filter system.

The filter was used more for water agitation and for running carbon in. I had great success with this tank for the most part.
