Ive decided to add more fish but dont want to risk anything bad. If will be adding smaller fish like a bangai cardinal, flasher wrasse, and possibly a fire fish, what sort of setup do i need for a QT? What size tank? Live rock? Filtration?

    Any suggestions welcome

QT can be a 10 Gal with a little substrate, some small rocks for hidding with some fish. Filtration you want something bigger than is recommended for the water volume, to keep the water clean as possible

I'm using an eclipse hood on a 29. It cheap and easy to set up and break down. It lacks protein skimming, but I do pretty frequent water changes on it, and everything has worked out well so far. Lots of people just use a 10 gallon, but I figure the more water volume the better.

I had planned on using a bio cube, and I'll admit I'm sorry I didn't do that....its more designed for salt.

    Hey Kylie!
QT is usually as simple as possible - 10-20g tank, heater, simple filter (freshwater hang on), light mostly for convenience and pieces of pvc plumbing for hiding.
Substrate could hamper cleaning and the QT will often be used for treating as well (copper/etc.).  Frequent water changes (could use display tank water) and monitoring as there isn't an established biological filter like in the display.

+1 on Eric's description. If the QT is setup and cycled less frequent water changes. If newly setup for QT use sytem tank water and do every other day or even daily water changes. As with any tank watch ammonia buildup.

Haha Thanks guys! I'm glad you liked them! They were really just the break apart ones you get from walmart. If I had had more time I would have made my recipe but seeing as I only had half an hour, that was the best I could do.

My MIL hooked me up with a 10g, which I have set up on the stand in the kitchen. It has a heater, some hidy decorations, and a cascade filter with some media she's had in her 75 sump for a while. I have my first new fishy in there too! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/biggrin.gif An adorable little firefish. He didn't appreciate waiting for me to set up the tank but now he's been swimming around checking out his new house. Wednesday I get a pair of bangai cardinals to add in there. Adam is going to special order them for me. Then Joe is going to try to catch his flasher wrasse for me.

I will be upgrading to a 60g (so just like Adam and Joe's tanks) this winter (yay christmas money! haha). Do you think that a pair of clowns, pair of cardinals, coral beauty, midas blenny, firefish, and scooter will be happy and healthy in my 40 and eventually 60?

Sad news, my fire fish didn't make it. Is there something I could have done wrong? I used freshly mixed saltwater and made sure it was a close salinity to that from the store. Should I have used water from my dt instead? I'll be getting two bangai cardinals this wed and I don't want to lose them.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
