Going to do a water change today, first time that I will be doing after adding some snails. It just hit me.....what if the sails are up high on the glass? Will they move down keeping up with the water level as it lowers? This has me a little nervous lol

Snails carry water with them. They are usually shipped with very little water, if any. They will be fine, no worries!

Thank you! I kind of thought that may be the case...but I wasn't sure.

I think a lot of snails and crabs we keep are commonly found on tidal zones. I would imagine it very common for them to be out of water during low tides.

Even corals and other things we keep for that matter will probably be fine out of the water during water changes if they come from these tidal zones.

Mine come out of the water, they either dont move or if out of the water long enough they let go/start to and go back in the water. I also have a few mushrooms and zoas that are on a high rock that gets exposed during water changes and see no ill effects. I ordered a few rfas(rock nems) and one bag had a nem and a chunk of rock. I figured the nem came off the rock in shipping so I set the rock aside. A few hours later I went to throw the rock away and noticed something on it, looks like a squishy circus tent. Threw it in water and right before my eyes it was a rfa that had turned inside out, was cool to watch, but made me nervous. It was a speckled green with a orange mouth. That was quite a while ago and its done fine.

Like Bxr said most snails and hermits are tidal zone inhabitants and therefore are fine with being out of the water, in fact nerite snails sometimes get lost in the house due to this behavior.
