For my latest build I decided to tackle making my own rock out of cement and crushed oyster shells. It turned out way better than I expected. I do have some leftover stuff that I will not be needing. Free to whoever comes to get it, will keep until Sunday 2/26/10 and then it goes to the dumpster.
~ 85 pounds of all purpose sand. I started with 100, it was just for shaping the rock. I estimated 15 pounds loss, although it is probably significantly less.
~ 50 pounds type I portland cement. I used about half of a 94 pound bag, maybe a little less.
I am in Ames. If you want it, it's yours. The cement is in a bag. The sand is in a rubbermaid tote. I'd like to keep the tote, or give me a couple bucks and take it with the sand.
While this stuff isn;t necessarily for our tanks, I thought I would offer here before I toss it.

I'm not interested in the stuff, but I am interested in seeing the rocks you made...post pics and info about what you did. I would love to read more.

Will do. The rocks were soaking in a rubbermaid 70g stock tank when the crappy bulkhead it comes with sprung a leak. I spent all last night cleaning that up. I need to run into Theisen's tomorrow to get the proper sized GOOD bulkhead and start filling it back up. I also made a video of the process that I plan to upload to youtube when i get it edited.
