So I just tested my water with a new Red Sea Test kit that I received.

    Calcium is showing 460

    Alkalinity is showing 8.6

    Magnesium is showing 1520

I have been putting some BIONIC 2 part in for a few days so they calcium and the alk make sense. However I have not added any magnesium.. Is Red Sea usually show a little high?

I use Reef Crystals and Red Sea Pro test kits too. Mine doesn't test that high for Mg. though A few questions for you:

Is it the red sea PRO version?
How old is the test kit?

I borrowed one from another hobbyists that was older and it tested crazy high too 1500-1600. I got a brand new one (Pro version) and it started testing normal (1200-1300).

I'd also suggest making sure you are performing it correctly as shown in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MofaqM-I6uM

For reef crystals I would say that's pretty normal. My mag always tested on the high side using that salt.
Your calcium is on the high side, most likely due to the 2 part dosing and the already increased calcium levels found in reef crystals salt. I would at least stop the calcium part of that dosing. Your alk number looks pretty good though.

The test kit was purchased yesterday and received today from Bulk Reef Supply. Date on bottom shows 8/15.. I tested again and again am getting a high reading.

Does anyone in Cedar Rapids have a Salifert test that I could bring some water over and test against?

I have one if you want to bring some water over when you pick up the AWT kit.
