I want to add a couple wrasse to my 75gal display. What's your favorite? What's your recommendation?

Currently fish in the tank are: Yellow tang, pair of percula clowns, pair of bangaii cardinals, flame hawkfish, green mandarin, and a coral beauty dwarf angel.

I've been thinking about a pair of flasher wrasse from Live Aquaria, but seems that I can only find either a male or female of a species. I'm guessing its best to add them as a pair at one time. But, if I can only get one now, would that be a problem - and then add another later??

I want a wrasse that won't get larger than 3" or max 4".

I really like my yellow coris wrasse. Some people say they can be mean but many including myself find them pretty docile. Mine swims all day looking for bugs and worms to eat and leaves fish alone. I've never had one but I also really like the looks of the Christmas wrasse.

Are you wanting them for possible pest control? Most don't get bigger than 4", most :0) To be safe, I would add the pair together. Flashers and Fairy's can go together in the same tank so if you don't want a male and female of the same, go ahead and mix them together:0) My fave is the Flame wrasse but there are many very nice looking!

There are a lot of nice wrasse that will fit well in your tank. As far as adding them at same time and such I have never had an issue with adding them, I have never had an issue with them getting along

is your tank covered? Wrasses are jumpers and seem to be able to find the smallest holes to sneak out of.

I had a McCoskers carpenter Flasher, my first one was very active, had amazing color and fins. He jumped out of the tank one night after having him for about a year. I purchased a new one just recently (much smaller) I can't seem to locate him. Hoping my rock nem didn't have him for lunch.

I don't have a deep sand bed, probably only an inch at most. So, I think that eliminates the yellow coris wrasse and the blue star leopard wrasse. The flame red wrasse looks pretty as do the carpenter flasher wrasse and the mccosker wrasse.

I have a DIY lid with 3/8" sq netting. Would that be sufficient to keep the wrasse in????

David - on Sunday you said you had several wrasse. Which ones? Which is your favorite?

I don't have a sand bed so I can't keep leopard wrasses. But coral haven almost always has leopard wrasses for sale in their tanks and they are always out swimming around. I think they feed them several times a day though and I have seen all of them eat like the rest of the fish. In my opinion if I had the right setup and able to feed several times a day it would definitely be a must have fish for me. They are simply a beautiful fish.

I have a pair of exquisite, and a pair of lubbocks fairy wrasse- used to be a trio of lubbocks but one went missing. I also have a cleaner wrasse. I have had several flasher wrasse as well. Mc Coskers long fin etc. But I lost most of them to jumping.
I bought them all at separate times and I think I got them all from AC&C. The fairy wrasse mostly started as female/juvenile and one of the pair developed into males. Pretty cool watching the transformation. Not sure I have a favorite. Add a few different colors for variety.

Thanks Jeremy. We do typically keep a few at the store and typically have great success getting them eating frozen food and swimming around rather quickly. That said, I am the fish whisperer, and typically have great luck getting even the most difficult to keep fish to eat and stay healthy

When you lost your wrasse to jumping, did you have any top cover?? Would they be able to jump thru my netting top - 3/8" square netting????
