Does anybody have any experience with this fish in a reef? I have a flame angel currently and wanted to know if there is likely to be aggression. If any body has any experience with this fish please let me know. .

Hard to keep alive. Bought one once and he never ate. Most sites steer away from them as theyre very finicky to eat in captivity.

Gorgeous fish, but I would make sure I get one that I know has already been eating in captivity. They can be very hard to get to eat, but are gorgeous!

Feeding definitely seems the biggest hurdle, but it seems like if you get a good one, it is possible to keep them long term.
I'm more curious about aggression and destructive behavior. I have a Flame angel and have heard only one dwarf angel per tank because of aggression. Does this rule of thumb only apply only to other dwarf angels, or all angels. (I assume if I acquire a regal it won't be full size yet.)

Through reading online I've concluded feeding could be a problem, they can eat corals especially zoanthids and they may die for no reason within a year. Most of the stuff I'm finding online at other sites are generalizations of what others have heard, not first hand accounts.

Has anybody kept a regal in their reef for any appreciable period of time that can give some insight?

    Hey Mvpit.
After talking with you today I did some research on these and as everyone else has said, getting them to eat can be challenging. As far as CoralHaven goes for carrying them, we are striving to mostly keep reef safe fish and those that tend to be less challenging to keep, especially at first while we get a little better handle on things.

I never considered adding a large angel till i read it, I'm still weighing the risks.

Not a good choice unless you are confident it is already eating and then it is still a gamble...bigger the tank the better! I had one, it ate ALL my zoanthids, then died a month later. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/sad.gif

Sorry man, I've always wanted to try another one but I won't put one in my current reef tank. It would probably survive, but it would eat corals that I didn't want it to.

Your best bet would be to buy one off DD that is already eating. I'm thinking of putting one in my 350 gal reef but not till after its fully stocked with corals that way if it does nip hopefully there will be so many corals to nip at that it won't do any damage

I had a divers den regal that lived for 8 months. It ate right away but eventually something happened to it and its mouth swelled up and died four days later. I did have it in with some corals at one point and it did not bother them
