Regenerate GFO

    Anyone regenerate their GFO? Seems easy and cheap enough to do, just wondering if anyone in the club had done it and what were the results. I picked up an extra BRS reactor and I'm going to give it a shot.

    I did for awhile but it was more work then it was worth. I just started dosing lanthium chloride instead.

    Plus the sodium hydroxide eats the impellers up on a maxijet so you will have to spend extra money for a magdrive pump but even they don't last very long

    I looked at lanthanum chloride before I bought the last batch of GFO, but there was just too much that could go wrong if done improperly. I wasn't comfortable trying it out. GFO is pretty simple and fool proof. Its just expensive.

    I use it because it was killing me buying gfo for a 1000gal system. I went from using 2 gal a month of gfo to using 6-8 cups of gfo and 1/2 pint of lanthium chloride

    I was regenerating gfo at ac&c for a bit. It was sort of a pita to do and I found it made the gfo soft and mushy. I was using regular gfo though. I've heard it's not such an issue with the high capacity gfo.

    i bought the high capacity from BRS because I had heard it regenerates better.

    Buy phos-blast from premium aquatics instead. It's not GFH, but rather like RowaPHOS (if you research it, you will find that it actually is the same stuff), which is just a smidge below GFH in efficacy.
