I want to stock up on a few pumps so that I have inventory in case of pump failure. I have a five foot incline from my pump to the return inlet on my tank. It is a 96 galllon wavefront. How.many gallons per hour is recommended? I read that 5x the gallons in your tank is minumum but what is ideal for a tank with both coral and fish?

I also understand that the 5 foot lift will reduce power as well as the plumbing.

My recommendation would be either a Mag 7 or 9.5 for just the return from your sump. I do also agree with the sump doing about 5x and your need falls right in between both of these pumps. A lot of people over do the sump not thinking that the wavemakers pick up the additional water movement need, get another 10x to 20x of watermovement from them depending on stock.

I'd look into DC pumps. Far more energy efficient than mag drives, and you can vary the flow on them with the push of a button.
I never had a problem with my jebao return pump, and it only cost about $100 I think.

Thanks guys. I haventade the purchase yet but am going to pick up 2 of them to have on hand. I was shocked at how affordabke the mag.drive pumps are. I thought they would be much more expensive.

+1 on the controllable dc pumps. They're quiet, powerful, controllable, and they're getting cheaper and cheaper.
