It's been a while since I last posted in this thread and a lot has changed in my tank & in my apt.

Recently, I've gone through and renovated my apt & also rescaped my tank! There should also be ton more change to my tank, as I have a brand new tank to transfer everything, with japanese glass overflows (Mame).

Here's a photodump of the past half a year.

Man what a wild 1.5 months.

For the past 2 months or so, I've been playing with my nutrient control/export methods.

I realized that what i had been doing for the past year, i.e running a skimmer with a carbon/phosguard reactor and a purigen reactor, wasn't effective. I had to feed my tank sparingly, about 1/4th cube of mysis or cyclops every other day in order to keep ward off algae blooms. Unfortunately, this sparing feeding routine meant that nothing grew in my tank. Fortunately, nothing died, but nothing also grew.

2 months ago, I decided to pull my reactors and try biopellets + KNO3 dosing for nutrient control. So far, everything's been going pretty darned spiffily. Ever since the biopellets kicked in, I have been able to up my feedings to a monstrous amounts, while still maintaining a low nutrient profile (<5ppm nitrates and <0.05ppm phosphates).

    I currently feed/dose:
    0.5 ppm KNO3 Daily
    1/4th Cube Mysis Daily
    1/4th Cube Cyclops 4x a Week
BRS Reef Chili 3x a Week
    2 Drops Sponge Power 3x a Week
    1 Drop Coral Vitalizer 3x a Week

The LPS and zoas have loved this, as they've spouted new heads off at an unprecedented rate for me.

Not everything is all fun and games though. Last week, I noticed that one of my acropora colonies started STNing. Furthermore, an entire strawberry shortcake frag RTN'd away on me. While I still am unsure what has caused the STN, iodine dips seem to slow it down.

Enough text. The next post I make will be all pictures.

Very nice tank you have there. That nano box looks like it puts out some good shimmer like a kessil.

Thanks bud. The nanobox puts out great shimmer plus has a great spectrum (looks very metal-halide like)! However, like all lights, the shimmer is proportional to surface agitation.
