Ok, so i would really like to invest in a RO/DI unit.  Kinda confused on what would be the best choice.  What kinda stage do i need, etc....    I was looking at a 6 stage Aqua Reef.  can anybody give me some direction on what I should be looking for.    Also does anybody have a RO/DI system that they are trying to get rid of.
I guess the recent topic of RO/DI on another post sparked my interest.  I use store bought RO water and have had fairly good luck with it, but I'am thinking that upgrading to a nice RO/DI unit might actually improve the entire tank.

I have the unit snowman linked too and it works great. We just have pretty hard water in my household so I had to add a few extras. If you get one invest into a dual inline tds meter.

Thank for all the imput.  But iam curious, what is the difference between the RO water i get and having a RO/DI system??  I work at a grocery store and get access to free RO water.  I've seen the system in the back of the store and it seems like it would do everything I need.  I think it even has a UV unit on it.   I mean, will I notice a lot of change in the health of my tank?
Also what is the difference between a 3 stage, 4 stage and 5 stage??  Honestly don't know much about this topic if ya didnt' catch that.
    Thanx

there isn't a whole lot of difference really between the store stuff cept they seem to have higher TDS than an at home, not sure why though.

the difference in stages is more filtration. you need to test the water you have currently coming from your faucet, if that reads a really high tds and phosphate then you might want to get a 5 stage. there for the longest time i ran a 3 stage. carbon filter, sediment filter and an RO membrane. i recently added a DI filter to mine.

Wal-Mart water around here is RO/DI and it runs in the low single digits. Just test the water at work with a TDS meter. If it's good, just use it.

take free water if you can get it, you'll be paying quite a bit more on your water bill running an RO unit since you get are 3-4 bad gallons per 1 good gallon

I work at Hy-Vee. They put in a Midwest Best Water system not too long ago. I'am going to borrow a TDS meter and check it out. See if it's worth sticking with the free water or not.

If it's single digit, I would stick with free as long as you can take the hassle of moving the water around.

Are you having any problems with algae or anything? That would be one sign that the water is bad.

So i tested TDS on my store bought water. I got a 13 on it. I'am pretty happy with that. I think i'll stick it out for a little while until Tax return comes! Ha
