Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by ChapmanFM, Dec 22, 2015.

  1. Just changed all teh filters on my RO DI system, it is rejecting about 3/4 of the water, is that normal?

Yes. The rejected water is what takes the particles away from the RO membrane. Without this flushing the membrain would plug just like your sediment filters and carbon blocks

If you have the BRS one they have an addon that will double the amount of water used (adds another RO membrane) and can help reduce some waste.

Two common causes for excessive waste water.

    First is very cold water

Second is low pressure. If you add a booster pump, you can usually cut it from 4 to 1 to 1 to 1.

I think 3:1 - 4:1 is typical for most RO systems. As mentioned there are ways to make it more efficient. Some people also save the waste water and use for other purposes. Washing machine, watering plants etc.

I'll have to measure my waste water, I added a booster pump and my production water rate skyrocketed

Mine waists a lot as well probably in the 4 to 1 range. I use to put the waist water line in the washer. But after forgetting it a few times and causing a minor flood I stopped doing that. I'm planning on adding the brs upgrade to help.
