so i have had my nano set up for about 2 years now and i have been fighting a non winning battle with aiptasia.  i have alot of dry rock, so im thinking of just taking out the old rock that is infested with aiptasia and just adding the dry rock to the already set up tank.
I guess what im askin is do you think it would be safe for the inhabitants to do this or do i need to find another way of getting this sh*t out of the tank?

only if it's below a certain size.

as ugly as they are, they are one of the best filter feeders there are. Do you have a place in to hide them at? Chamber or sump?

they r prett large i suppose i could get a peppermint to eat the little ones but dont have anything to take care of the big ones.  i have heard that kalkwasser works to get rid of them but dont want to kill anything else in the tank

use kalkwasser in a syringe, that will take care of the big ones but they will still release eggs. what i've been doing is i got a couple peppermint shrimp, and i hit the big ones and if little ones pop up the shrimp take care of them. kalk wont kill anything unless you use a ton of it, what i would do is work at a couple a day or so.

I've had great luck with peppermints, even some pretty big aptaisia didn't seem to bother them. I have used pickling lime/kalk right next to zoas and it didn't bother the zoas at all.

These work, as I put a pair in a 180 that was heavily infested (500+) 4 weeks later I'm struggling to see any on the rock.

aiptasia x. Read up on it and if you want I'll bring some over to demonstrate on a few. It seems to be safe but I wouldn't kill too many at once. It worked on a huge infestation of mojanos which are twice as tough if you ask me. Pm me if interested in my free offer.

Yea I just bought one of these fish and I think it's doing a great job, plus it's a cool lookin fish. It changes colors depending on where it's at in the tank. I bought one of these guys and a pakistani butterfly. I had so many that I'm not sure if they've done much yet, but I also bought two bottles of aiptasia-x. I'm going to kill all of them I can see and then see if these guys will keep the rest to a manageable level.
I recommend getting both aiptasia-x and some animals(peppermint shrimp, aiptasia eating filefish, tahitian butterfly, pakistani butterfly, or the copperbanded butterfly) to kill them.

The aiptasia works better than Joes Juice, kalk water, lime juice, etc... It will glue the aiptasia's mouth closed so it won't release any "babies."

I just killed about 100 in one day and all the zoas around them on this rock were open within two days, no damage to them at all. I used about 5 syringes, but the bottle says it causes no changes in the chemistry of the water. You could probably kill twice as many as I did without any affects, I just got tired of doing it.

well i would love to get a spiny box puffer but with a 24 gallon reef i dont think that is feasible
i may end up going with the aiptasia X
im going to try the Kalk but how do i mix the powder like what ratio?

I would make the kalk a thick almost paste like thickness, and hit all the big ones. And then if you can add a couple pepperment shrimp to get anything left over. I wouldn't take the rock out and replace it with dry rock. The rock will cycle and cause high nitrates. You could cure the dry rock in a bucket for a few weeks intil it cycles, and then replace the rock.

I have had good look with concentrate lemon juice in a syringe. Doesn't take much and I never had any come back.

I've used both Kalk and Aiptasia-X...both work really well. Be patient and treat it slowly. If the rock is covered as you say, I don't think you want to flood your tank with these solutions all at once. Treat several each day until they're gone. Shrimp are a good long term solution.

I can't find the picture, I thought I saved it. But it's an aiptasia eating a pepperminet shrimp. I'll have to search some more threads, but it is seriously cool.
    Found it!
