Help!! RODI is running

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by ChapmanFM, Oct 27, 2016.

  1. My RODI filter is running or i should say discharging but there is no demand for water. My valve to the barrel is off, so it is disguarding 100% of water, anyone know why it would be running? my water bill skyrocketed last month. which i know is from the unit.???? help plz

Auto shutoff valve probably needs replaced. They're very cheap and easy to replace.

  6. yes there is an atuo shut off, however i shut the main line to the barrel off, and it keeps running and throwing out 100% of water.

Ah ok. Yeah sounds like a bad valve like mentioned above.

I use automatically closed valves for both hoses on a timer. That way the RODI only runs when I want it to while I am home. This is a safety thing I learned long ago because a float will always stick open when you are gone for the weekend.

IMO ASOVs should not be used, or rather, relied upon.

The reason is that when you have an ASOV in line and then it shuts the supply water off, that's fine...it's when you turn it back on again that you get an issue. Unless you manually purge the membrane, you're getting 15-20 seconds of really high TDS water hitting your DI resin, because as the stagnant water sits there on the membrane, things migrate slowly across it and build up high TDS water on the production side. That'll burn up the DI pretty quickly if it gets hit like that constantly.

So you can use your ASOV to prevent the container from overflowing, but when it's full and you don't need it, shut off the water supply line to the whole system.

Ideally need a flush bypass and a RO production water drain (tee and valve on the line between RO and DI) the flush membrane for 30s, drain RO for a few minutes, then run the DI and engage the ASOV to shut it off when it gets full, then shut off supply line whenever you get a chance

    In my opinion.

I was getting ready to ask about this. I have a 105 vertical polytank and its set up with an auto start and stop with my booster pump. My TDS coming off of the well is 430 and after the membranes its between 10-19. When it sits and I check the TDS of the water after the membrane after its been sitting it gets into the 400s. So you're saying to not have it automatically fill back up and have a tee with a valve right after the membrane to get rid of the stagnant water?

Is it possible to have a valve engage automatically through a pressure switch? A switch just like what is used to kick the booster pump back on when the pressure on the float valve is gone?

I guess it would be hard since it would need to be timed after it was engaged so its not open all the time.

A booster pump like the RO Buddy automatically flushes the membrane

Looks like Ill be adding a second booster pump to my Maxcap then. Even with a booster pump right now my PSI is only at 50-60.

I go from ~30-35 on WDM city water to over 100

I still let the RO run for a bit after flushing before kicking over the DI though. Just a T in the line to a valve. Could probably do it automatically but not sure if anyone makes that.

  17. Auto shutoffs sometimes won't work correctly if your water pressure is not high enough.
Buy another and if it persists then your going to need a pressure pump.

  18. And it's a good idea to save your waste water in a barrel to use in the washing machine.
    I don't waste a drop.

BRS sells a 3 way valve to put right before your diet. Works great. Only takes like 30 seconds to flush the high tds water out.

I don't know about an auto Selinoid I'd or valve that would work.
