Have had a royal gramma in QT for 3 weeks. The first week treated with Prazipro as a preventative. Noticed the last 3 nights the royal gramma flashing 2 or 3 times over a 4 hour period. It eats like a pig and no white spots(ick) visible. Wondering if its the start of ick or is it most likely flukes? Do some fish just flash for no reason? Did start with another round of Prazipro tonight. Water parameters are all good. Thanks for any input.

Flukes are clear when alive and white on a fish when dead. After they fall of they fish scale can have a white looking bite mark. These marks sometime heal very slow or very fast. I had an issue like this with a hibbo where I killed a hand full of flukes then it looked like ick, but wasn't. I can't say I have actually QT in prozi before, I only do dips in the prozi with good results.

By flash you mean flare it's fins?

If so that is a normal behavior, and a good thing as they usually don't do it when stressed.

Not flaring. Striking left side of mouth maybe that side of gill on bottom of tank and rock. Its not very often maybe once a hour if that. Its now five days since noticed the striking still no spots of ich. Not sure if its flukes thus the second prazipro treatment. If it was ich wouldn't spots be visible by now? Do some fish strike for no specific reason except maybe have an itch?

Some scaly fish will rub no mater what. I have a clean and healthy system and randomly my lyretails will rub. Never ever had signs of flukes or ich. Been live in the tank for 3+ years...

I would have thought ich would have been visible by now don't you think? So yes I don't think its anything. Last night there was less of the flashing. Now that I think about it I had a royal gramma 10+ years ago that did the same thing. It never had ich or more symptoms of flukes all it did was flash occasionally like this one is doing. Putting it in my 40 breeder Friday which is 4 weeks in QT. The 40 breeder has a UV sterilizer on it anyway.
