I just saw this article today.  It is sad to see because I enjoyed going into the store.  LINK

From what I understand there were issues with the dogs that they sold. Something like half a dozen of them died over the past few months in their new homes and the issues were diagnosed by veterinarians to have been "puppy mill related". I hace heard a lot of bad stuff about the store regarding the dogs there. I really have no comment on that as I always went to check out the saltwater stuff, which I thought was always kept up in pretty decent condition.

On a side note, I was wanting to buy an emerald crab and petland was the only place I knew of that sold them. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif

I dodged a bullet... I ordered my Marineland 250 from them and had to put a $800 deposit down then they asked me I could pay the ballance before it even came in. It just came in aout a week ago.
All I kept thinking about before picking the tank up were all the places that go bankrupt and leave customers empty handed. I guess that could have been me! I had even said to Brett jokingly, That I would have to break in and take their 300 display if they closed before I got my 250.

This is sad, brett and the petland guys are great guys and good to deal with, sorry to see them go.

on the other hand if they need to get rid of their 300g i'll be first in line to take it off their hands :)

this is very sad though as it was a good store to deal with and i liked the people, to bad of the circumstances

Jusr curious, I only saw this in the news so it may be wrong, but as I understand it this is only a temporary and not a permanent close? Is that incorrect?

I spent the day helping Brett & Ron get as much of there stuff out as we could it pretty much sucked since they no longer have jobs. the land lord let us in for about 3 hours not much time to get the fish & there tanks out. she said she would let them back in on monday to get bretts tank & lizard out. hope fully they will find new jobs soon

that sucks, especially to be as spontaneus (sp) as it is, if they need homes for anything i will be more than welcome to lend a tank to room to keep things to get things back on track or find homes. I got room.

I stopped (or should I say attempted to stop) there yesterday and the sign on the door did say "temporarily closed" but the article in the above link sounds a bit more permanent...

It is too bad the animal issues could not have been addressed in a better manner. I have been in several petland stores around the midwest that had been established for (what i thought) quite some time; and they appeared to be doing well. Good luck to these guys.
