Safest way to add rock to tank...

    I am sure its come up many times but can someone tell me the best way to add more rock to my tank.  I have about a 100 pounds of 'base' rock I purchased in June, I know for sure its been out of a tank since June.  Whats the best way to add this to my current tank?  Can I add some rock here and there say over a couple months?
