just a fore warning...I am not at home (and won't be home for a long time) so therefore any information I have comes from my wife who isn't the greatest of all fish keepers /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif  lol
I have a 90 gal tank with a sailfin tang, pink skunk clownfish, oscellaris clownfish, a big damsel, engineer goby.  I have no corals either.  She just noticed today that the sailfin tang was beat up.  The picture she sent me via her camera phone wasn't great but you can see the top fin is nipped quite well.  She doesn't notice any heavy breathing or bloating or spots of anything.  Just the fact that he is beat up.
Now my question is A) which one do you think is chasing him?  and B) Would anyone care to go take a look at him?  Preferably from the QC area/Muscatine area, I don't want someone from cedar rapids driving hours just to look at a fish /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif  That I know of, the tank i would of used for a hospital tank, I believe has a nice crack down it now.  Therefore, I have no other option of pulling him out.  If you would care to go out to Aledo and look at him for me and talk to my wife, PM me, i'll give you her phone number.  OH!  we have also had him for a good 6 months now.  thanks!

If I were a betting person, I would say the pink skunk clown...if it is a larger fish. Not the engineer goby, probably not the oscellaris clown...maybe the damsel but it all depends on who is the largest and who has been in there the longest.

You said the salifn has been in there 6 months? Have you added any one of those since then?

I had the same feeling myself about the pink skunk clown. The Sailfin is the largest fish in the tank. He isn't huge by any means though. The pink skunk is significantly smaller than the tang. I got all the fish before the sailfin tang. All those fish I have had for over a year now and have had no incidents like this before.

I would be surprised if it was the pink skunk clown.  They are pretty non-aggressive.  I have keep 2 with 3 firefish and have no problems.  I would guess it would probably be the damsel depending on the kind you have.

+1 for the clown. I had a pair of them back in Cali and they BEAT ME UP! Those suckers can draw blood especially when they are thinking about spawning! I don't keep anything but perculas for that reason now (have had better luck with them at the very least).
EDIT: Just thought I would add that I visually saw them tag team my blue hippo, who was roughly twice their size at the time!

She should be able to just watch the fish for 10-15 and tell who's doing the bullying, if that's what happened. I would bet its the damsel; what kind is it? It is possible the fish could have had a run-in with some rockwork too.......perhaps being chased? You're saying the dorsal fin is beat up looking? That's not usually one another fish can nip at.

I will post the picture that I got from my wife.  Though again, it isn't very good and its kinda hard to see.  I will tell her to watch the tank for 10 to 15 minutes or so and see if she notices anything.  The damsel is a Blue Velvet Damsel.  I will note that he is the next biggest fish compared to the Sailfin Tang.  The chunks of the dorsal fin missing very well could be from running into the rock too.  Anyways, without due...here is the picture!  I thought at first when I saw him in this picture that his abdomen looked kinda different BUT I also haven't seen him in almost 5 months or so.  She also says that he looks like he has lost some color which worries me that he is close to death.

I think it may have had some sort of fish disease....the frayed dorsal fin seems more like disease than nipping, imo, hopefully it was nothing contagious. How do the other fish look?
