    Hello all,

I was wondering about a different way to read the salifert nitrate test kit results and wanted to get your feedback. What I do today is place the test vial next to the color squares and when 3 min wait time is up, do my best to match the colors.

So, thought of another way....when 3 min is up place the vial over the color squares starting with lowest value above 0 then move to higher values until color square shows through the test vial as I look down through it. When that happens, use the last test square reading as the nitrate value.

    Any comments?
    Thanks
    Nish
P.S. for all you folks with zero values...Cheers!

If you read the instructions closely, you're supposed to set on the white area of the card and judge the color in strong light. It's kinda tricky. Then if you have a low reading, you hold the card vertically against the back of the vial and look sideways through it in good light and divide the reading by 10.

I use API for anything over 10-20 ppm. Once it gets below 10 ppm, use salifert looking through side. Otherwise don't waste your salifert test on high nitrate water
