I'll be needing more salt here in a couple weeks and was wondering if anyone has seen any good deals? Seems like online prices are much better, but you add in the shipping and its almost a wash. I did some searching, but haven't found any deals that seemed too great. What are some good sites to watch, and anyone know of any current deals on salt or shipping that would be great

Check fosters and smith, there regular prices are still usualy better than the lfs, and the shipping is not bad.

There is a thread in the club member forums that gives the code to use at Drs. Foster and Smith for 50% off ground shipping, so with using this shipping is only $4.50.

Forums > Club Member Forums > Great Deals, Power Buys, etc. > Dr. Foster and Smith 50% off Ground Shipping

    I recommend Reef Crystals...

Sorry, Google Chrome ignored all my different paragraphs and jumbled it all together, it's still readable though...

Ebay is pretty good.. You can buy a 200 gallon box of reef crystals for $59 with free shipping to your door. Depending on what type of salt you want you can find good prices on all different kinds of salt on there. 200 gallon box should last you a long time depending on size of aquarium/system and how often you do water changes.

My first bucket was just IO sea salt. I had thought about going to reef crystals, but with only softies in the tank don't really know that it's needed. What do you guys think?
The first bucket went fairly quick with setting up the tank and doing a couple decent sized water changes. Plus I set up a quarantine tank in a rush and was doing daily water changes in that. Now that I got that all done with I am making much less SW. So a 160gallon bucket or 200 gallon box should last me quite some time with only my 40 gallon tank.

This is the same price as fosterandsmithaquatics.com(with coupon) and you can always order other stuff off their site at no additional shipping charge...

I've always used Reef Crystals, but then one time a friend wanted to split a bucket and wasn't willing to spend the extra money for the Reef Crystals over the Instant Ocean, so we got a bucket of IO. My Calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium were always off. After I went back to RC, my parameters are always in check. Reef Crystals is definitely worth it!

I don't test for any of that so I have no idea if they are off LOL.

As for ebay. Prices I saw were nothing special, and most of the shipping charges were insane. 44.99+38.35 shipping. Who would really pay that for a bucket of salt? There are so much better deals at reputable online stores.

If I didn't have to make the drive, or I was already in the area I would do that. But an hour or two driving is not really "local" enough to make it worth it. When I can get it delivered strait to my doorstep.
I still support the LFS, just trying to save some money where I can.

I drove to Manchester expecting more than just salt and there wasn't much of a selection when I was there.
I'm sure I spent more in gas than I saved!
