Menard's carries some sch 80 stuff. Most PVC primers and glue will list what they work with on the label...all the standard stuff I have works for it.

Check the label on the PVC cement, but I believe most of it will work the same on sch40 and sch80. Any particular reason you are wanting to go sch 80? Is it just for looks?

Keep in mind you get less flow from schedule 80 then you do with schedule 40

Sch40 and Sch80 pipe referes to the wall thickness. The sch80 is rated to a higher pressure so it has a thicker wall. Diameter of pipe is mesured from the outside diameter. So give a 2" pipe in both situations the sch40 will have a larger internal diameter and allow more flow.

Exactly, Sch80 pipe is approximately .064" thicker than sch40 with the OD being the same so that standard fittings will still work with it as well. In return you will have a smaller ID which will reduce the flow a bit more than standard sch40 pipe. The material that they are made from is the same and the same cement is used to glue them. I prefer to use the clear primer so it looks cleaner in the end. Sch80 pipe really isn't necessary for aquariums as the psi that our pumps are capable of producing are far less than what sch40 pipe is rated at. If you prefer the gray color and don't care about cost go for it.

To put into prespective your household water pressure is generally around 60-80psi MAX 1" sch40 pipe is rated for up to about 270psi and sch80 up to 380psi

If sch40 won't fit, then unfortunately neither will the 80. My guess is you have some metric PCV on the skimmer. Pretty common actually.

Yep a lot of swimmers use metric PVC. my octopus xp5000 uses metric
if you Google it you can find an adapter to go from metric PVC to standard PVC
