I want to get certified so I went to scuba too today in Cedar Falls to discuss options. I ended up knowing Ross who helps out there and he introduced me to the owner Chris Miller. The shop is well organized and they are seem to be very passionate about it. Chris said the first two levels and class room work can be completed in three days and the third level would be open water in the spring. It would be a random Monday for an hour and all day Sat and Sun. If I get 4 people he would do it any weekend we choose. Cost $275 for first two levels. Let me know if anyone would want to do it.

Does he have an option for a refresher course?

Yea he has lots of options. I don't know pricing for that but he is very organized and willing to work with different schedules. If I get four ppl it would be a private course. I'm sure one of the days and times we take it he could give you a refresher course at the same time.

I'm interested. So the $275 would get us certified to do open water dives? Also, how soon are you planning on doing this?

$275 would get you all the classes, testing and underwater skills in a pool, which is level one and two. You will need to do an underwater open water test that is $200 more but you can do that at a later date on a vacation or anytime in the summer in Iowa. I'm going to pay the $275 and sometime this summer I will pay $200 for the final stage which will completely certify me. Kinda expensive but it includes all the books. I would like to do anytime before march. If you want to do it PM me and let me know the weekends that might work for you. All the classes would be 8 hours sat and Sunday and this includes pool skills

Great... Now I'm curious about this too! Are there any places in the Des Moines/Ames area to get certified as well??

Just got back from two weeks in Bonaire. It was sick.

FYI, you can do the classroom work online, and get your certification dives done on your trip. My GF did it this way.
