Quick question. Is there any way to search for all posts by a user? I tried just putting in their username and searching, as well as putting in a * in the Keywords and the username but both return no results.

 

That's a bug. Right now it requires that you enter a keyword. I'm going to change it so that you don't have to enter a keyword if you provide a username or a tag.

BTW, search will never be guaranteed to return all posts from a user. For performance reasons, search results are limited to around 1000 hits. If a user has 2000 posts, obviously you won't see them all in the search results.

 

You should be able to search by just userid now, however as I mentioned before it's of limited use for users who have more than 1000 posts.

It should also be much, much faster than it was before.

I find it impossible to search anything here. Is it just me? All I wanted to search was buy sell for a sump and I get 0 results. I choose my keyword sump, Subject & Topic, choose buy sell in the bottom section and choose last 15 days. I know people have posted sumps in that time yet I still get 0 results. I'm very forum and computer literate but I cannot for the life of me search here.

 

maybe they weren't listed in the buy/sell section. Try switching to "general" and see what happens

 

Yes there are plenty threads in the buy/sell over the past week that have the keyword sump. I can search sump with the

Search Posts From: All

but I get posts that are 4 years old or more.

If I switch to

Search Posts From: 15, 30, 60 days I get 0 results.

not sure how you were doing it. I just typed in sump in both topic & posts and it brought pages of it up

 

It looks like there is a problem with the search indexing. I'll have to take a look at it and see what's going on.

 

Yeah I posted that it just works if you want all the old posts with no way to sort them by date. I want posts from the last 30 days that include sump.

If you search for less common terms, it works fine.

I think I know what the issue is. For performance reason, we put a limit on the search matches of 1000. Sump is such a common term that it's hitting that match limit before the date filter gets applied, therefore all of the newer matches are missing.

Not sure how soon I'll be able to get to it, but it should be fixable. Thanks for the heads up.

Give the search a try now. I fixed the problem with the query. It should be significantly faster now as well.
